Massage Therapy

Massage is one of the oldest healing arts.  Yet, as time has passed the profession has continuously refined its craft by developing over 250 special techniques which can enhance a full body treatment or address specific issues.  These techniques can be applied singularly or in combination to create a custom treatment that fits your body's needs.  In addition to full body massage, THE BODYLUX excels in the following services:

Massage for Sport and Athletes

Deep, body specific work is employed in this session in conjunction with muscle mobilization and assisted or resisted stretching.  Great for keeping muscles relaxed and lengthened, this massage can accelerate the healing of active or prolonged injuries.  As part of an ongoing maintenance program, massage  can improve athletic performance, prevent future injuries and reduce the likelihood of chronic problems.  Additionally, we have running specific massage therapists on staff, please contact us for further information.

Pre/Post-Natal Massage

Perinatal massage can assist the well-being of both mother and baby, whether it’s the enduring discomforts of pregnancy or rebalancing structure and physiology post-partum.  Experienced massage therapists are able to eases the pain and anxiety of labor and may even shorten labor times.   Specialized, advanced training in the anatomy, physiology, complications, precautions, and contraindications is highly recommended, and many practitioners require referrals from physicians prior to therapy.  THE BODYLUX  has certified prenatal practitioners on staff that are happy to work with your specific pre/post-natal needs.

Structural Integration

Fascia is a type of connective tissue that protects muscles, bones and organs and gives the body structure and the muscles shape, while muscles give the body movement.  Structural integration lengthens and repositions the fascia to align and balance the body allowing the muscles to move more freely.  This therapy is highly effective in restoring proper posture allowing the body to require less energy to move, making breathing easier and improving athletic performance.  THE BODYLUX recommends that you work with your massage therapist to design a series of treatments for the most beneficial result.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders. Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain in order to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles)

Relaxation Massage

Relaxation massage is a gentle Swedish massage that uses smooth, gliding strokes to help you relax.  THE BODYLUX massage therapist will move at a slower pace and use lighter pressure. There is less emphasis on working out serious adhesion's or "knots" in the muscle tissue, which can be uncomfortable and cause some people tense up against the pressure.  In a relaxation massage, the therapist won't push your pain limits in order to get the muscle to release. You might even fall asleep!  It's a good choice for someone who is getting a massage for the first time, or someone who just wants to bring their stress level down.
